How To Order A Custom Pen

An eMail starts the process with the following:

1. Your Name
2. Your email address
3. Your telephone number
4. Pen Model
5. Pen Size
6. Colors you would like
7. Material(s) if you know it, but not immediately critical
8. Nib required:
a. Size: Steel: XF, F, M, B, 1.1, 1.5;18k gold: F, M, B
b. Material: Steel or special order 18k gold
c. Color: Steel: Polished Steel, Two-tone Gold, Ruthenium
d. Color: 18k Gold: Gold or Two-tone Gold (special order)
9. Customizations - can be discussed if you haven't decided yet
10. Shipping: US or International

I begin work on your pen after I receive a deposit of half of the cost of the pen. Once the deposit is received, I will let you know where the pen is in my work queue and when you may expect to receive it. The deposit is used to order any special materials or nibs needed for your pen. When the pen is complete I will send you photographs of the pen for your approval and to make sure it is what you ordered. After you approve the photographs, I will forward you a PayPal(TM)(TM) invoice for the balance due on the pen and postage/insurance. I ship the pen after I receive notice that the invoice is paid.


I accept PayPal(TM) (which will allow you to pay with a debit, direct payment from your bank account or credit cards such as Visa or MasterCard once your PayPal(TM) account has been established - there is no charge for you to use PayPal(TM)). I will also accept personal checks, or money orders for all domestic orders. Purchase(s) will be held until check clears. Please make your check payable to James P. McConnel, note on the check memo line SomethingWrite with pen model name.


Shipping is a separate cost and is not included in pen prices. The estimated cost of shipping and insurance will be provided to you with the balance due at completion. Shipping within the US always includes Insurance. Insurance is optional on International shipping.

Shipping is via USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate. All pens are packed against mistreatment to ensure safe arrival. Each pen is stowed in its leather scabbard secured in a sturdy plastic shipping tube, wrapped in bubble wrap, and placed in a sturdy, corrugated USPS shipping box with lots of tape!

Warranty & Returns

Your pen is warranted for 30 days from date of buy for defects in workmanship and materials. I request that you keep the original hard plastic shipping sleeve and bubble wrap for that period in case you must return the pen. Please email so we can discuss the best way to return the pen if there is a warranty issue.
